Jhalawar district is located in the south-eastern region of Rajasthan, at the edge of Malwa Plateau. It shares common boundaries with the state of Madhya Pradesh on the South-West and East; in the North it touches the Mukandra range, running from North- West to East forms a rough boundary between the two district viz. Jhalawar and Kota.

The formerly princely state of Jhalawar was created in 1838 A. D. after being separated from Kota by the British. It got its name derived from Jhalas, the Jhala clan of Rajputs, also the rulers of Jhalawar.

The region is famous for its forests having exotic flora and fauna and a heaven for numerous species of birds which can be spotted on the roads as one drives along the lush-green fields. Jhalawar is also known for the Production of Citrus (Oranges). It is also known as "Small Nagpur", since it ranks second in the production of oranges in India after Nagpur (Maharastra).

Jhalawar is also important from tourism point of view. Some of the worth visiting places in the district are: Jhalawar Fort (Garh Palace),Government Museum, Bhawani Natya Shala, Ren Basera, Jhalara Patan, Gagron Fort, Buddhist Caves and Stupas, Atishay Jain Temples, Chandkheri (Khanpur), Bhimsagar Dam, Dalhanpur (Chhapi Dam), Bhimgarh – Kakuni, Manohar Thana Fort, Jain Swetambar Nageshwar Parshwanath Temple (Unhel) and Fort of Gangdhar.

How to reach

Air: The nearest airport is at Udaipur, about 284 kms away from Jhalawar.

Rail: The district is connected with rails at four places viz. Jhalawar Road, Choumahala, Pachpahar and Bhawani Mandi which comes in the way of Delhi-Mumbai broad gauge line of Western Railway.

Road: Almost all the towns and most of the important places are well connected with the district headquarter. The Jaipur-Bhopal National Highway also passes through Jhalawar.
